I don't normally post many personal blog post, however this one is special. My daughter is amazing and I just couldn't not post some snap shots and brag about her...

As a family we have been touched by cancer in many ways, we know survivors, ones who were taken from this earth and even some that are still fighting. Brooke and I, along with a wonderful group of fellow actors, their families and our friends have a annual Relay For Life team, The JT PLAYERS (NOR Junior Theatre actors, family, and friends). Our relay event was held on May 1st 2010. Brooke shocked us all when she put up the challenge to the Bakersfield Community - Raise $2000 is 30 minutes. If that could be done she was going bald. You bet Bakersfield did it. Here is a small facebook post by one of our friends and fellow team members: "
AMAZING experience for one of my relay team members! she raised $3618.57 for cancer research and shaved off all her hair and donated it to locks of love. but what's even more amazing... here's her response... "The Woman who shaved my head was a breast cancer survivor of nine years, with a mother who had cancer, and a sister who is currently undergoing chemotherapy. She was the first person I asked if it was possible to make that happen, and she found Robin immediately and made it happen for us. She was incredibly insightful, holding my hand and being truly passionate about the cause for which I wanted to shave my head. It wasn't about donating to locks of love, although I'm happy I am. And it wasn't ALL about the money, either, although I knew Bakersfield could do it no problem. It was to show women that bald is beautiful. And it's hair, it grows back. Best quote I heard after shaving, "Hair is just an extra addition to what makes a person beautiful on the outside, but the lack of hair shows an even more beautiful inside""--- Brooke you are an amazing person!!!
I have to agree with Kathryn, Brooke amazed us all and inspired many. Thanks to everyone for their support.

This years relay is over, but the fight against cancer is not, anyone interested in donating to the ACS Relay for Life or joining a team let me know. We will be fundraising from now to next year to reach our 2011 Relay Goal.

Mrs. Hill and I went to high school together and Brynn and her daughter are the same age. We got back in touch via (cough cough facebook) and I was asked to do her family photos for Christmas this year. Our weather's been crazy and we have yet to see the fall colors so the photos were just my style bright and fun! Best of all Mr. Hill gets this years award for best smile by a man, he loves his beautiful girls and wasn't afraid to show it! I really need to update my blog but I've been a little busy. Busy growing a new bundle of joy! That's right, this is my official announcement to clients and blog followers. After careful consideration of the calendar, juggling the sessions and weddings we already have booked we decided to add a new model to our family. We had the wonderful opportunity to meet with J. She's a proud member of the Class of 2009, and a beautiful young lady. The weather in town was much less than spring like, in was down right ugly. Ok so it time for my occasional family post. Easter was wonderful, as always the Bunny brought the girls their summer wear. Bree decided that should would keep her bathing suit on, when we went outside to hunt eggs we told her she had to put on shoes. What did she want on? You guessed it, her rain boots. Boy was she a sight, hunting eggs dressed in a bathing suit and rain boots. All she needed was her snow hat to complete the outfit. LOL I wish I could dress like I was one again.

So I got to thinking today, wow It's been a while since I posted, where did all the time go. During these winter months I've been trying to learn more and define my style, all while being pretty hard on myself and complaining about my rut and lack of studio space. I stumbled on the video post below on another photographers blog, she has found it on the blog of Zach Arias. I have to admit, my first challenge was just to take the 9 minutes to sit and watch it. But once I did it really hit home, what a great motivation. It made me remember how blessed I am to be a photographer. Thank you to my wonderful husband for pushing me harder and always believing in me and my dreams. Enjoy~

I couldn't decide what to post for today so I used random.org to choose for me. Out of a bunch of words it chose light. Fabulous, it was dark out side and the family is sleeping, back to the photo files...Here is one I found where the lighting was not ideal, yet I like the way it turned out. I didn't have much time to shoot today, so instead I decided today's post would be a before and after. This photo is from my very 1st wedding ever. To give you a sense of time, I actually shot this wedding in film. Ok now stop laughing, I got my my pro digital gear shortly before I headed off to start shooting the wedding. Going from a Mamiya to a Canon, film to digital, I had no idea where any of the buttons were but I decided to take it along just in case I got to play with it. Here's one shot I took with my new baby that day and my quick (2 min) photoshop fix.

After messing with my blog and website for hours last night, I decided I had to go to bed. Much after midnight I realized It was my Grames birthday. I don't know if you celebrate earthly birthdays in heaven, but if so I'd bet she was celebrating big. I've realized sometimes you just have to post an entry for yourself. This one is for me, a way to celebrate grame and the time she was here with us. Although I could fill up many pages with words to describe her, here are some words and phrases that come to mind: Grame: The Best, loving, Dr. Pepper, fleece, redhead, green, camary, baby powder, chips, hardworking, stubborn, compassionate, "anything you just can't live without", mac salad, peach cobbler, cook, flannel sheets, perm, friend, Hawaii, Pismo, scooter, determined, oh how the list could go on forever. To the woman who made herself a mother to many, a grame to many more, and a friend to all. The woman who believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. My number one photography fan. Many of you know we are always on the run. One of the activities that the girls are involved in and the one that probably keeps us the most busy is theatre, well the girls had yet another amazing performance. They were all in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. B1 was Babette, B2 an Enchanted Plate, and B3 made her theatre debut as a village baby. Here is a photo of the 3 doing what they love. Aww the things we do for our kids!

Where has the year gone?

It seems like it was just the other day we were ringing in 2008 and now it's almost gone. This year has been quite the journey for our family. Personally I have been focused on the photography business and everything that goes along with it. In the world of photographers, education is never ending. The trends in photography are everchanging. And as for the technology, well as soon as you buy something it's already "old". Cody has had the opportunity to be home more and has really embraced every moment with our girls. B1 has been juggling the ends and outs of high school, homework, and dealing with parents. B2 has embraced school and is just trying to figure out life and who she is. B3 has grown leaps and bounds, and is learning everyday.
So what does 2009 have in store....Photography wise, many new promotions, learning opportunities, and meeting more wonderful clients who quickly become friends. Family, well who knows, but I can't wait to see. Happy Holidays to everyone!

So the past couple days I've been putting B in her bed to go to sleep. Not only has she been going to sleep, she's been sleeping the entire night in her bed! I was starting to think it was just a fluke, maybe she's just been too tired to fight me. Tonight we did our normal routine and after we brushed her teeth she started rubbing her eyes. So I said "Are you tired...Ready to go to bed...go get in your bed" She took off down the hall and went straight into her room. I plucked her up, kissed her sweet face, and put her in bed. She grabbed her binkie and silkie rolled over and went to sleep. I still can't believe it, Cody and I actually have room in the bed again. This is a huge deal as she'll be the first to be out of my bed before..ummm well I won't embarrass the older girls. LOL

Every now and then I try to post a photo or two for our family that is out of town. Usually these are just snapshots of our family or children. This is one I caught the other day after the kids got out of the pool. It's normally hard to see because it's so light, but here's one to show Bree really does have hair.

9-11: Where were you?

After taking my oldest to school I headed off to the doctor for my weekly OB appointment. My sweet baby girl was due in just about a week. Strangely, I'm unsure why we didn't have the TV or radio on that morning. It was usually in our daily routine to watch the Today Show, and I always listened to the radio when taking her to school. Looking back what a blessing that it was different that morning. When getting to the office the mood was unlike anything I'd ever encountered. I checked in and sat down, looking up at the television I saw the video footage of the planes, the devastation surrounding the twin towers and pentagon. Every man and woman in that office was still and silent. Filled with many emotions including much sadness, there was nothing we could say. What kind of world would we be bringing these innocent babes into? After my appointment while driving home, I tried to fight back the tears. However, all it took was a look around to see the other drivers tears and numb looks on there faces and I broke down. Now I had to explain what had happened to my then 7 year old. I had to try to convince her to not live in fear, though I was terrified of what was yet to come.

If you haven't already, please take a moment to remember and say a prayer for each of the fallen heros of 9.11 and their families. May we Never Forget!

We were all taught when we were young, you don't take things that don't belong to you! Well as adults it seems that some forgot what they were taught. Recently myself and other photographers found that another "photographer" was using our images on her website and posting them as her own work. Many are seeking legal action.

Due to the recent events all photos posted on the blog will now be watermarked with my Production B Logo right across the center. Please note, this isn't due to my wonderful family, friends, or clients, but rather to keep my work safe from other want-to-be photographers.

I had the wonderful opportunity this week to work with the Stikes children. I met their mom at Little Feet Repeat. Our focus was on Miss L, the newest addition to their family. There were great to work with and oh those baby blues on L. were beautiful. Here's a sneek peek of the girls, still need to upload the big brother shots!

OK - hats off to you 365+1 bloggers that have actually stuck with it. I've finally given in to the fact, there is no way I can shoot and post everyday. Started with the vacation, then the sick family, followed by the really sick infant, followed by the darn flu. I love photography and learning new things, but a girls gotta sleep sometime too! So I guess this won't actually be a 365+1 Blog, It'll be more of a Melissa actually got the time to shoot for fun an post blog. I'm going to keep up the weekly themes and hope to post at least once weekly. Thanks for the support!

Did I ever tell you I despise Hi Key, yep throws me for a loop every time. The baby was in a good mood and her outfit matched the new Valentine Rug I got from Target (love Target!) so I thought I'd try to get a good photo for our cards, not the best so looks like I'll keep trying.

Wow, finally the little one is doing better. She's still not 100% but a little less demanding and not getting as many breathing treatments per day.

This is a total snap shot, like the glare from the flash? Bur I was sitting around looking for things to photograph that we're ummm.. outside of the box. After several attempts I decided taking a picture of a cube is hard. Anyway, Mad Gab is a hilarious game, if you have never played it, try it out some time, guaranteed fun!

Just wanted to let everyone know, I'm not ignoring the fact I've committed to this 365+1 blog. Our youngest is very ill and has RSV, so we're dealing with a cranky 3 month old and breathing treatments every 4 hours around the clock. I hope to get back on tract with photo posts again next week. On the road again, just can't wait to get....Wait, what am I saying, I could have done without the long drive again so soon. But work, school, and city life was calling us back home. This is actually taken out of the front window of the car while driving. With a few stops it took us about 11 hours total, Cody was a trooper, he didn't want to irritate my ribs so he drove the entire way, going the speed limit. He made the comment "it's so different how your attitude changes when you have a family." He used to make the trip in about 7.5-8 hours flat, and that included stops. Now he's transporting precious cargo!

So the hill is covered in snow, Grandma bought the girls some sleds, baby's asleep, so out we go... everyone is having a great time. I go to take B#2 down the hill for our first run together, we jump on the sled and down the hill we go. Wooo Whoo this is great, sled turns, wow now we're going backwards, Dad and Grandpa at the top of the hill watching and video taping, sister at the bottom just finishing her run. "This is fun, shouts B, what are Dad and Pop yelling for, can't hear them......BAM! Child crying, short blackout, lack of breath, Dad and Pop running down hill, can I breathe...? Finally air! We hit the trash dumpster and hit it hard! Needless to say, that was my first and last trip down the hill. Got one thing from my to do list taken care of, and possibly a few broken ribs, but it was fun! So after the crash this was the best, most creative photo I felt like taking, just my feet...feeling very blessed that I can still move them.

We took the girls on a mini trip to Nevada to visit the family. After the long 11 hour drive, us parents could hardly keep our eyes open, but the girls were ready to play in the snow!

So I was supposed to be packing today, it was not very successful.

I took a few shoots, thinking outside of the box was my main goal. I didn't really get anything fabulous, but I'm trying to work more in complete Manual, so I took this photo of Cody's eye. Can you see me? Off to do the dreaded packing now. Oh, and before I forget, I won't be posting for a few days, but assure you I'll be shooting, so look for the posts for each day next week.

Wow, now this photo a day thing may be harder than I thought. Little miss B was quite the

demanding one today, so there was little room for experimentation. Just a quick shot in her new hat. It fits her perfectly and is a nice change from the daily bow.

Ok so why the e-mail telling you to check out this blog?....Well I'm not good at New Years Resolutions (especially if they include weight loss), so I thought I'd make myself a New Years goal. My passion is photography and as my own family as business grows I find less time to learn more about the art of photography and near no time to share my work. So this will help me learn and allow you to (on occasion) get some great shots of my family, as well as a general idea of what we've been up to.

I plan on starting on January 1st and posting a new photo each day for the entire year. Ok so there will be times where we are out of town or busy, but I still plan on getting at least 1 shot each day and posting as soon as I can.

Not all shots will be of my family, even though I could photograph them everyday, they wouldn't fall for the idea. So you may find shots of places we visit, unique people we see or meet, or maybe even our yearly new additions (a couple of baby hummingbirds born in our flowering bush out front. You'll just have to check regualrly to find out.

Please always feel free to comment on my photos, good or bad. That's the only way I can learn to see in a different perspective.
